Nayon
ng Kabataan
(
or the Village for the Youth ) is the National Centre for
neglected,
exploited, abused, abandoned, and orphaned boys and girls ( including
those
under the Department of Social Welfare and Development - National
Capital
Region.
Built
in 1968, it is mandated to provide total care, rehabilitation, and protection
to
these
children with the end goal of re-integrating them to their families and
communities.
The
Village provides a comprehensive package of social services which
includes
home
life services, training on productivity skills, medical, health and
educational services. Legal assistance is also provided, when necessary.

BACKGROUND
The
Village for the Youth was transferred to its present site in Pasay City, Metro
Manila
in
1973 following the Department's move to decentralize all institutions in the Welfare
Ville
Compound in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila.

GOAL
& OBJECTIVES
-
To
train, educate and rehabilitate youth with special needs to become
self-reliant and productive citizens.

To
provide a temporary home for the care, training and rehabilitation of the
socially disadvantaged youth.

To
provide learning opportunities to youth, enhance their socio-economic
stability, self-sufficiency and social responsibility.

To
inculcate among the youth moral values and positive attitudes.

CLIENTELE
We
offer services to minors between 7 to 17 years old both male and female who
are
abandoned,
abused, orphaned, neglected, exploited, maltreated, mendicant, vagrant
and
the behaviorally disturbed.

FACILITIES
The
Village is built within a two hectare lot and has complete amenities to make
the
child's
stay in the institution comfortable and suitable to his / her individual
needs. It
has
12 buildings, six of which are used as residential cottages, while the others
serve
as
infirmary, central kitchen, skills training and productivity centers, and
administration
office.

ADMISSION
PROCEDURE
Parents,
guardian, the police, hospitals, government and non-government organizations
may refer qualified children to the center. Upon admission, the child is
interviewed and oriented by a social worker and referred for physical
examination to the center's physician or nurse so he may be treated
immediately if he has any ailment. After which, he is assigned a cottage which
is under responsibility of a houseparent.

BRIEF
HISTORY
Marillac
Hills
is
a temporary shelter for girls and young women who are in crisis. Coping with
trauma of sexual abuse, maltreatment, sexual exploitation, unwanted pregnancy
and or conflict with the law requires expertise which is being provided by the
Department of Social Welfare and Development in this facility, free of charge.
The
center has been existing since 1915.

difficult circumstances to enable them to become socially responsible and
economically productive citizens.

update techniques and treatment methods, establish procedures, standards
and requirements which can be adopted by other institutions.
